Thanks to the Glen Eira City Council grants program, we were grateful to receive $3000 to spend on new STEM toys to add to our collection.
The Glen Eira City Council community grants program supports not for profit community based organisations and groups to carry out projects and activities that contribute to the liveability, accessibility, health and safety of Glen Eira.
This year we applied for $3,000 to support our ‘STEM Toys for Curious Minds’ project, enabling the library to expand
our collection of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) toys to encourage children from birth to 10 years of age to explore, create, learn and innovate through play.
A love of science can be developed at almost any age and STEM toys can help children develop memory retention, motor skills, coordination, literacy skills and most importantly a love of learning and a curious nature!
Here’s a small selection of what has already arrived in the library, with more to come! You’ll find most of these in STEM or Construction categories.
Toy #2438: My First Sounds and Senses
My First Sounds and Senses includes 8 building pieces that feature different textures for a tactile experience, different sounds for an audible experience, and different faces to learn about emotions.
Toy #410: Connetix Geometry Pack
Connetix tiles encourage cognitive development, spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills and help children build knowledge around scientific and mathematical concepts, all through play!
Toy #820: Junior Inventor – Deluxe Scientific Workbench
Learn more about science with this cool inventors’ workbench. Your little one can build devices like a Digger, Zoetrope, Gravity Vehicle, Rotating Light, Wind Maker and many more.
Encourage your budding scientist to interact with the physical work and learn about basic scientific principles. Discover momentum, gravity, persistence, and the conservation of energy to mention a few. Let the creative experiments stimulate your kid’s curiosity and get to know the secrets of physics.
Toy #2704: Kinoptic Robots
Use creativity to create futuristic robots by assembling the pieces of each box in many different ways. Discover magical and surprising movements using a striped sheet and watch them come to life.
