World Play Day is here!

May 28, 2021

World Play Day is celebrated on May 28th every year, and this year's theme is 'Playing is healthy'.

Initiated by the International Toy Libraries Association (ITLA), World Play Day is a day to celebrate children’s right to play across the world.

Play promotes physical, mental and social health in the following ways:

  • Physicalhelps kids with coordination, balance, motor skills, and using up their natural energy (which promotes better eating and sleeping habits)
  • Mental– Playful behavior appears to have positive effects on the brain and on a child’s ability to learn. In fact, play may function as an important, if not crucial, mode for learning.
  • SocialCooperative play helps kids hone their social skills as they figure out how to negotiate group dynamics. It helps them learn how to collaborate and compromise with others, recognise and respond to others’ feelings, share, show affection, resolve conflicts, and adhere to the rules.

Toy libraries not only support our health by encouraging play, but also our planet’s health by reducing our impact on the Earth.

Join us to celebrate this day by encouraging your children to play, inside or outside, and there is no better way to do this than by borrowing some new toys to get them excited!
